Where to dive
Marsa Alam 2009
not a lot to say i was not impressed with the centre that we used, when i go back to marsa alam i will use another and report back
Taba heights 2010
this was our fifth visit to Egypt and quite an eventfull one it rairly rains in Egypt except when we got there, this year saw thunder storms and flash flooding .It was an interesting flight over Egypt especially when lightening hit the plane but all was well ,we landed (terra firma more firmer less terror ) as you can gather i am not the best of flyers .
Taba Heights has to be my favorite dive destination to date .A small resort on the sinai peninsula a few miles from the Israel border . You will land at Taba airport a millitary airport set on the top of the mountains approx 3000 feet above sea level, there is only one road down to the resorts of Taba and Taba heights, a 40 min transfer by coach will soon have you at your hotel
There are five hotels in the resort of Taba heights four are situated right on the beach and one at the base of the mountains, there is also an 18 hole golf course .There is one dive centre REDSEA WATERWORLD who have bases in all the hotels, the dive centre is by the marina so a short walk to the dive boats
Redseawaterworld is run by Andrew Day who has many instructors and dive guides ,and has to be the most friendly run operation in the red sea in my opnion. Diving is mainly boat diving although there are a couple of shore dives . there is an all day boat in which you can have upto 3 dives, an half day boat 2 dives ,or an afternoon boat 1 dive . There are appx 16 dive sites all of which are easy to dive what ever level of your qualification , my favorites sites are Maxwells , Aquarium , Angels Nets and Zacks Table because of the amount of wildlife there, a photographers paradise .
One of the local Egyptian dive guides Aidy can spot the smallest of critters from the tinnest of nudibrancs to fish that look like just hatched fom an egg .It seems to be a bit of competion between the dive guides to find the tiny stuff, in 2008 dive guide Mohammed found a frog fish so small camera had a job to se it (see photo fish in hand ) mind you i had a job to see it .He saw it on the sand from about 5 meters away
I have visited Taba heights 3 times twice in 2008 and once to date this year and the staff remembered us how good is that
Dahab 2011
this year saw us at the Subaqua dive centre in the iberotel dahab a small but friendly dive centre it is a well kitted out centre the dive sites are only a short jeep ride away they also use a boat(we did not bother with this option ) the best thing about this dive centre was that you can dive guided or unguided which to my mind is excellent the dive sites that we did are Bell/Blue Hole,Canyons,Lighthouse,Um Side ,Moray Gardens,Caves, hotel Housereef
Dahab 2012
Well another trip to dahab we were so impressed we had to go again. This time we dived with Blue Ocean Dive who are based at the Mercure bay view hotel .After we had booked in for the diving we were shown around the dive centre ,this is a new one on us ,we got to see the compressor room, service room ,kit room infact everywhere and it was spotless and well kitted out, the owners and staff are obviously proud of their centre and so they should be well done Blue Ocean Dive
The staff are some of the best that we have come across nothing was to much trouble ,it is a very laid back centre none of the speedy guided diving we have seen in other centres infact apart from a check dive all diving was unguided and excellent detailed briefings ensured we had a fantastic time so a huge thanks to Nicky Tom Oli Andre and Jana and everyone else see you soon guys and gals
